If you want to really impress your lady and make some serious brownie points buying her some intimate lingerie can really do the trick. If you are able to pick out just the right item for her it will show her that you really care about her and she will feel like you are the most romantic guy on the planet, but since we are guys we can also screw it up.

I must warn you though that if you go off half cocked that the chances of failure are high and you could end up in the doghouse, or worse! But, if you follow some simple pointers you stand a good chance of reaping the benefits of your purchase, if you get my drift.

What’s one of the biggest mistakes guys make when buying lingerie? Yeah, we ALWAYS buy it like it is our present, like it is for us. Well, unless you are a cross dresser you need to lose that attitude right now!

You need to think about the person you are buying the lingerie for and try to think of what she likes. If you are close enough to her to be buying her lingerie, you should know what she likes and what style she would like as well as what color to get. Some women like baby doll or teddies and some don’t! Don’t buy something super skimpy just because you want to see her in it because if she doesn’t like it you not only won’t see her in it, but you might not see her for awhile!

There is a myriad of choices in lingerie on the market today and it seems like the ads are directed at us, some of them will get us in trouble. If your lady isn’t into the street walker look for lingerie you will definitely make her upset if you buy her that type. Again, remember, it’s not for you!

The next dumb thing we do as guys is to just walk into a lingerie store blind and with no idea on earth what to buy. Do you know what happens then, some sexy little sales clerk is going to sell you the lingerie she likes, and then you are in trouble again! Do you know what colors your lady likes? Do you know her style? Do you know her size? There’s a monkey wrench in your plans! That is one thing you better get right for sure. If you get something to big, you will get, “You think I’m that big!” and if you get something to small, “I’m too fat, I can’t wear this”, either way you have lost!

I hate to say it, but you have to be sneaky. If you don’t know her size then it’s panty raid time. Wait until she isn’t around and go through her drawers, and get an idea of what she likes and her size. She will be so surprised when you give her something that she wanted for herself.

Okay guys, I know you don’t want to hear this but here it goes, when you are shopping for lingerie for your lady it isn’t for you. I know it’s a shocker but it’s true. If you want to make her happy and you want her to think that the lingerie gift you buy her is great, remember you are buying it for her.

We all know as men what we like and what we want to see when it comes to lingerie, but what we think is sexy and erotic may be something she has no desire to wear. This is especially true if your lady is shy about her body, and you know if she is. If you go and buy something that is super revealing and she wouldn’t be comfortable in it, it doesn’t matter what you think. She will put the garment in a dresser drawer and never take the tags off.

You know your lady, if you don’t you shouldn’t be buying her lingerie. When you are shopping for her, think about the things you know she likes. Would she really feel comfortable in this, or not? Educate yourself on the different types of lingerie available and peek in her lingerie drawers to get an idea of what she likes if you have never bought any for her before. While you are at it, make sure you take note of her size. Nothing can cause a lingerie gift to backfire faster than to buy the wrong size, whether it is too big or too small.

If you have never been to the lingerie department or a specialty store that sells lingerie you will be totally amazed by the diverse selection of lingerie products on the market. Take it up a notch from just bras and panties and look at things like bustiers and corsets. If your girl is more conservative and shy about her body you should consider a chemise which is a little longer than the Baby Doll nightie that you may have been fantasizing about. Baby Dolls are really short and because of this they usually come with matching panties or G-strings. Don’t buy your woman something like this unless you know for a fact that she is into it.

Now that you are aware of some of the basic styles available you need to be sure that you know her size in all of them. For men this is the defining moment that determines whether your gift is welcomed and appreciated or thrown back at you! There is no excuse in her eyes for you not to know, therefore most of us have to cheat and peek at the items she already has. If you buy your woman the wrong cup size it will probably tick her off just as much as it would if you buy her a large negligee when she wears a medium, so be sure. You need to know her number size, such as 6, 7, 9 as well as the standards of small, medium, or large.

Now that you have all this down pat you need to decide on colors. Pick colors that enhance her hair, eyes, and skin tone. Take your time and do a little research and you will both be happy.

Corsets and Bustier: a history of lingerie

As recently as the 1830’s, the corset was thought of as a medical necessity. Being that women were the weaker sex, they needed the support of a laced corset to hold them up for any length of time. Girls from the ages of two or three began their lives being strapped in daily to a tight laced corset. Unfortunately for the women, by the time they reached their prime they were unable to stand or sit upright for very long without getting the “vapors”.

Early corsets were made from canvas, (plenty of that around from all the sailing ships) and had laces all the way up the back pulled so tight as to make it darn near impossible to draw a deep breath. Needless to say, the prevailing fashion (or fetish) of the day was a very small waist line.

Today’s modern corset is made from softer and suppler materials such as silk, satin and lace, (as well as leather) to name a few. It is designed to accentuate a woman’s curves, not to alter them. For many men there is nothing more arousing than the sight of a willing accomplice all dressed up in a tight little laced up leather corset, and it’s a turn on for women too!

Out of the corset evolved the “Bustier”, predecessor to the modern day brazier. It seems that men even back then liked to see their women’s breasts pushed up and squeezed together! A bustier is basically an underwire bra that extends down to the waistline. Traditionally with a lace up front, today’s bustiers can fasten in a variety of ways. Zippers, snaps, hooks and eyes, (remember the trouble we had undoing bras in high school?) even Velcro seems to get the job done. Keep in mind the fastenings when considering a lingerie purchase. The removal of these garments can at times try a man’s patience. Remember the times when you’ve been asked to take it easy and slow down? Do it now, and savor the moment!

Another popular lingerie design is what’s known as the “Teddy”. Similar to a corset in design, a teddy is a one piece suit that starts out as a bustier, extends down between the legs as a thong, and ends up fastening to the back of the bodice. Simple by definition, teddies can take the form of something resembling a harness, to a full fledged zippered, hooked, and laced corset with an attached thong. Many teddies come with garter belts attached, adding endless possibilities for some naughty, bad little girls’ psychopathic imagination to run wild with.

For the truly innocent, perpetual virgin nice girl look, consider the “Baby Doll”. A short mini hanging to the waist that can be worn with or without the matching bra and panties, the baby doll is usually made from some sheer, lightweight material with varying degrees of transparency. The baby doll lingerie style gets its name from; well…you figure it out!

Today, ladies lingerie is easier than ever to shop for. Do a search on lingerie and you’ll find a multitude of reputable lingerie dealers and merchants. Browse through their catalogs and you’re sure to find something that stirs your, um… interest.

Sizing is an issue that must be dealt with, and a good lingerie site will have size charts easily accessible. While lingerie is generally pretty forgiving size wise, (a lot of lingerie is marked one size fits all) you should know at a minimum if she’s a small, medium or large. If you see sizes like 32, 38, etc….why don’t you just ask her her size!

When shopping for lingerie, keep in mind that a gift of lingerie should stimulate both you and your partner. Get her something that you like, and don’t be afraid to push the envelope! Lingerie encompasses a huge variety of styles; from a couple of pasties and a thong, to an elegant satin and lace gown with matching bra and panties! Do not overlook the possibilities of Leather Lingerie. Leather has become mainstream and is not just for bikers and sado/masochists any more. Women love the feel of leather on their bare skin, and peeling off a tight leather teddy is a real treat!
