How Clothes Look: Proper Under Garments Can Make All The Difference

The proper under garments can make all the difference in how your clothes look on you. In terms of panties, nothing is more unflattering than seeing panty lines under your slacks!! That’s especially true in the summer when you can get a double whammy…actually seeing through light white pants as well as having the textural bulge that some underpants give!! I am a huge fan of thongs! For some people they take some getting used to and some are more comfortable than others. You’ll have to try them and see how you feel.

They make visual and texturally bulging panty lines obsolete…great for your look in clothing. As for bras, it’s a great idea to get your bra professionally fit!

This may sound a bit bizarre but there are great women out there who do this for a living in lingerie shops. You would be surprised at how many women walk around wearing the wrong bra size for years!! A bra too small around the back provides bulges that look ugly under sweaters or t shirts. Cups the wrong size result in bulging if too small and lumpy wrinkles and gathers if too big. Anyway, once you have the proper size, here are some things to look for.

Go for unadorned and seamless cups. (While lace and rosebuds are awfully pretty, they don’t permit fabric to lay smoothly). I love the bras at Victoria’s Secret that are unpadded but nonetheless have opaque, shaped cups like the demi bra. I recommend you take a look at their web site for some ideas or stop into one of their stores and try some different styles on. Here’s tips…try the bra on and put your top back on to really see how it looks!

Own a variety of different bra cuts…one more plunging, one with race backs, one with narrower straps, one strapless, etc because different tops and dresses call for different bra styles. Get a couple of the basic style and then one of each additional style should do it! You just never want your bra or its straps to show!

A pant suit is a great idea, and I would recommend that under it she wears a nice top that would show a bit of bust. I would suggest a suit with a jacket that is a bit tight around the waist and then loose to give her bust some shape, and straight trousers to make her look longer.

A nice top would be a wrap top to show her bust off. Another thing saw can wear is a top that is a bit long, say, reaching to her knee. Over a straight trouser. She can try to get a top that has some embroidery or jewels, or a hint of gold or silver colors to fit a wedding.

You have all the basic color slacks, three basic suits, some fun skirts and a wide variety of tops that should look really well with your bottoms. I’m at a loss for you not being able to make great outfits out of your pieces! You are probably just being too hard on yourself.

All About Pantyhose

Pantyhose (also known as tights) are sheer close fitting coverings of the body from the waist to the feet, most frequently worn by women. Like stockings they are usually made of nylon. The one-piece pantyhose garment appeared in the 1960s and provided a convenient alternative to stockings (nylons). The term ‘pantyhose’ originated in the United States, referring to the combination of ‘panties’ (an American term for women’s underpants) with sheer nylon hosiery. In the United Kingdom, they are called tights, a term that refers to all such garments regardless of denier. In the U.S., the term tights is used for non-sheer garments similar to pantyhose, such as those worn by girls, dancers and athletes. Pantyhose are worn for a number of reasons. Sheer pantyhose that match the skin color of the legs can enhance the appearance of legs, making them look smoother. Darker pantyhose can enhance the legs by outlining the shape and by making the legs seem slimmer. Brown colored pantyhose give the illusion of tanned legs; an ‘instant tan’. Pantyhose also has a practical use, as it can provide warmth in colder weather and let one appear “bare-legged” even in the winter. Pantyhose that are knitted with lycra enhance blood circulation by applying even pressure on the legs throughout the day. Pantyhose are currently a standard sight in offices worldwide, where they have been accepted as part of a professional dress code for women. Though a barelegged trend is now popular amongst younger women, hosiery is still common in offices and places where formal dress is required. Schools with uniforms often require some sort of hosiery as a part of the uniform (usually pantyhose or tights). Most pantyhose are composed of nylon and a small amount of spandex, which provides the elasticity and form fitting that is characteristic of modern pantyhose. Unfortunately, the nylon fabric is somewhat prone to tearing and it is common for very sheer hose to ‘run’ soon after snagging on something rough or sharp. Pantyhose worn for fashion have a standard construction. The top of the waist is a strong elastic. The part covering the hips (panty area) is composed of a thicker material than the legs. The gusset or crotch is also a stronger material, sometimes made of cotton. The legs of the pantyhose are made of the thinnest material which has a consistent construction down to the toes, which may be reinforced to guard against wear. However, a constant complaint of pantyhose is that they “run” or tear frequently, which ensures that wearers must constantly purchase new pairs. Pantyhose are available in a wide range of styles. The sheerness of the garment, expressed as a numerical ‘denier‘/’dtex’, ranges from 3 (extremely rare, very thin, barely visible) to 20 (standard sheer) up to 30 (semi opaque). Pantyhose are sold in a variety of colors and textures (patterns). In business wear, the texture is usually neutral and the most common shades are beige, gray, white, and blacks, while fashion styles popular among younger women include a wide range of colors and textures. Pantyhose are considered a part of the lingerie wardrobe, and thus a turn-on for many men when they see them on the wearer. Styles which are shiny, silky, and sheer-to-waist are attractive to many men their alluring qualities even triggering pseudo-transvestic feelings about this most feminine item of women’s clothing.

Fashion Of The 1940s And Industry

The fashion industry is a cut-throat industry. Often aspiring designers can’t just climb their way to the top, they have to claw their way there, and most never make it. However don’t be discouraged, a handful of them do make it. I think that it would be the more career savvy decision for you to move to the United States, preferably New York City. However, the choice is yours. Montreal and Toronto are both modern, great cities that I’m sure would have plenty of opportunities. However, if you really want this, my advice would be to move to NYC. I don’t really know if successful European and American designers travel to Canada to help students, but I’m sure if you enroll in a fine design school in Canada you would have some designer guests, as most schools do.

The International Academy of Design and Technology (located in both Toronto and Montreal), the Ontario College of Art and Design, the Seneca College of Applied Arts & Technology, and the Superior Fashion School of Montreal are all great schools that you might want to look into, if you haven’t already. I have no idea as to what your odds are when it comes to working with designers like Dior and Dolce and Gabbing, nobody can really determine that.

It’s all really a matter of how badly you want it, and how hard you are willing to work. I don’t really think the five best fashion jobs in Canada differ from the five best fashion jobs in any other country. Also, I don’t think anyone can determine what the five best fashion jobs are in any major country/city, as it is all just a matter of taste. Merchandising, marketing, photography, journalism….the list is endless. Fashion in Canada is nowhere near as in demand fashion is in Europe and the USA. If you want the REAL fashion industry, head to New York, Paris, or Milan.

The 1940’s was a very glamorous era in the history of fashion. The stars of the day that you would probably be interested in researching would be: Katharine Hepburn, Gary Cooper, Joan Crawford, Spencer Tracy, Vivien Leigh, Judy Garland, Cary Grant, Lauren Bacall, and Humphrey Bogart. Each of these stars had a style all their own. Kate Hepburn, especially helped usher in a new style, in that she always wore slacks, she was hardly ever seen in gowns or skirts, this was extremely rare for that day, she was definitely ahead of her time. Women of the 1940’s emulated what they saw on the screen. For instance, women had their eyebrows either tweezed or painted on very thin and very defined.

They also wore their lipstick in what was called a “cupid’s bow” which was where the upper lip was accentuated rather than the fuller, bottom lip.

The hair was worn in a loose “finger wave.” If you really want to see a true lady of the 1940’s, I suggest you rent the movie “Chinatown,” Faye Dunaway’s character Evelyn really captures a woman of the 1940’s.

Back to clothing, silk stockings were a wardrobe staple for any 1940’s woman. However, the United States was rationing silk, being in the midst of World War II. So the only silk stockings woman could get their hands on had a very noticeable line down the back of them. In order to hide this, women would take a permanent marker and draw down the back of their legs in order to hide the large run in their stockings.

The basic silhouette for women from the 40’s was broad shoulders, a small corseted waist and full hips. Fabrics were very light as many new synthetics were being introduced. Also, while Hollywood glamor was very ‘in’, the US was at war at the time, rationing was in effect and many women were not able to afford things like pantyhose and stockings. One thing women did at the time was draw a line of the back of the leg to make it look like they were wearing stockings, even if they weren’t. (silk stockings had seams). Shoes had a heel and a slight platform. Round toes, peep toes and ankle straps were common. If you’re looking for famous 40’s women to model your look after I’d look for images of Veronica Lake, Rita Hayworth or Ingrid Bergman. All had the classic ’40’s’ look.

One of the most effective ways of communicating 40’s fashion is through hair and make-up. Hair was worn long, smooth with intricate finger waves. Make-up was striking and simple. A dramatically arched brow, liquid black liner (ONLY on the upper lid) and bright classic red lipstick. But very matte, no gloss ever. You mentioned the New Look, but that style didn’t debut until the late 40’s and didn’t become more popular until the 50’s. With the new look shoulder silhouettes became more ’soft’, the waist was worn more tightly corseted and hips became even fuller.

How To Clean Your Lingerie Without Damaging It

Don’t even think about just throwing your lingerie in the wash with all the rest of your laundry. With the diverse types of styles and fabrics on the market today you simply cannot through everything together. What you must do to ensure the life of your lingerie is either hand wash or use the delicate cycle of your washing machine and wash your lingerie by itself. As far a cleaning agents are concerned you need to be sure to only use the mildest detergents and fabric softeners since the materials used in most lingerie damages easily. This is even more true with fabrics that are very sheer as well as mesh and lace lingerie.

Some of the more expensive styles on the market may even require dry cleaning so be sure to read the tags on how they are to be cared for and if you are going to remove the tags make sure you remember the instructions. If you tend to have a poor memory you may even want to write down the instructions and keep them in your laundry area. Just as with other clothing, the more often you launder your lingerie the shorter the lifespan, you will get the longest use by hand washing.

As far as synthetics such as polyester, rayon and others you really have to be careful with washing and drying because they are so delicate. The best practice to be on the safe side is to wash these types of lingerie in the sink using warm water and a mild detergent. You should also be aware that garments with padding or wire will not last long if they are washed too frequently. If you choose to wash in a machine make absolutely sure that the setting is on delicate and as I mentioned before don’t wash other clothing with them. Drying can be especially harmful so be sure to only use a very low heat setting for a short duration of only 15 or 20 minutes or better yet let them line dry.

Caring for cotton fabrics can be very difficult because of shrinkage and other factors. Depending upon whether the garment is 100% cotton or a blend will determine what type of care you need to apply with more cotton needing more care. Cotton shrinks in a distorted manner and can become short, wide, and uneven if not handled properly. It isn’t that big a deal for t-shirts that you wear around the house but it isn’t attractive for your lingerie that you want to be sexy and form fitting. As with other delicates the best treatment is to hand wash with mild detergents and allow to line dry to avoid excessive shrinkage, you may need to touch up with an iron to eliminate wrinkles.

How to Buy The Right Lingerie For Your Sweetheart And Stay Put Of The Doghouse

Okay guys, I know you don’t want to hear this but here it goes, when you are shopping for lingerie for your lady it isn’t for you. I know it’s a shocker but it’s true. If you want to make her happy and you want her to think that the lingerie gift you buy her is great, remember you are buying it for her.

We all know as men what we like and what we want to see when it comes to lingerie, but what we think is sexy and erotic may be something she has no desire to wear. This is especially true if your lady is shy about her body, and you know if she is. If you go and buy something that is super revealing and she wouldn’t be comfortable in it, it doesn’t matter what you think. She will put the garment in a dresser drawer and never take the tags off.

You know your lady, if you don’t you shouldn’t be buying her lingerie. When you are shopping for her, think about the things you know she likes. Would she really feel comfortable in this, or not? Educate yourself on the different types of lingerie available and peek in her lingerie drawers to get an idea of what she likes if you have never bought any for her before. While you are at it, make sure you take note of her size. Nothing can cause a lingerie gift to backfire faster than to buy the wrong size, whether it is too big or too small.

If you have never been to the lingerie department or a specialty store that sells lingerie you will be totally amazed by the diverse selection of lingerie products on the market. Take it up a notch from just bras and panties and look at things like bustiers and corsets. If your girl is more conservative and shy about her body you should consider a chemise which is a little longer than the Baby Doll nightie that you may have been fantasizing about. Baby Dolls are really short and because of this they usually come with matching panties or G-strings. Don’t buy your woman something like this unless you know for a fact that she is into it.

Now that you are aware of some of the basic styles available you need to be sure that you know her size in all of them. For men this is the defining moment that determines whether your gift is welcomed and appreciated or thrown back at you! There is no excuse in her eyes for you not to know, therefore most of us have to cheat and peek at the items she already has. If you buy your woman the wrong cup size it will probably tick her off just as much as it would if you buy her a large negligee when she wears a medium, so be sure. You need to know her number size, such as 6, 7, 9 as well as the standards of small, medium, or large.

Now that you have all this down pat you need to decide on colors. Pick colors that enhance her hair, eyes, and skin tone. Take your time and do a little research and you will both be happy.

History Of Lingerie

Up until about the ’60s and ’70s, women’s undergarments were made to serve a few different functions or purposes, none of them being sensuality or femininity. Learning the history of lingerie should make any woman thankful to have been born during this particular time. A time when ideas regarding the female form and women in general have morphed so drastically from just a century ago, and the changes in lingerie have certainly reflected this.

Women’s underwear, long before lingerie was even a possibility, has, at one time, been not only unsightly and boring, but sometimes, downright painful! Corsets and girdles have been causing discomfort in women for several centuries now. Early corsets made of bone were designed to tighten the waist and enhance the bust by pushing it up and forward.

From the 16th to the 19th centuries, corsets were worn to give women waists as tiny as 16 or 17 inches (40-43 cm). This was so tight that some ladies even passed out from the severe constriction! Thankfully, the girdle became popular in the 1920s, which also helped to shape the body, but into a more natural form and with elastic-type material rather than the painful bindings of the corset.

When more and more women found themselves entering the workplace during World War I and the years to follow, they realized a more practical form of undergarments were needed. Soon fabric became breathable and considerably lighter, and style was focused on functionality. Then, in the 30’s and 40’s, women’s lingerie began to truly enhance the female form with the advent of the bra.

Bras can now be designed for support or for appearance and enhancement. Those that are made for support maximize comfort and minimize movement, such as a sports bra. Bras that enhance figures can lift the bust line, give you cleavage that you’ve never had before and some also feature extra padding to add to your overall bust size. Alternately, there are even minimizing bras designed to make the breasts appear smaller.

Women’s panties have undergone many changes in the design process and can be found in different styles and cuts with something for any preference. Briefs are designed for comfort but can still be found in colorful patterns or designs. Boy-shorts are a fan of many women since they help minimize panty lines but are fun and comfy at the same time.

Also, in the “everyday” category of lingerie along with bras and panties, are slips and pantyhose. Pantyhose were a miracle in themselves in that they combined stockings and a panty into one garment. Garter belts were no longer needed to hold up stockings, which added to the overall comfort of women’s lingerie.

Now lingerie can be delicate, sensual and help spice up your life, giving you a number of styles and types to choose from. Now corsets and girdles can be made for appeal rather than binding and tightening and can also come in all colors and designs. A bustier is a strapless bra that has garter straps attached at the waist and can be made of fabrics such as silk or satin.

The teddy, one of the most popular types of women’s lingerie, is a short nightgown that falls just above the upper thigh and can be made of a variety of sheer or silky materials. Teddy’s also usually come with a matching pair of panties to complete the look.

A chemise is another common piece of lingerie and features a straight-cut with the gown falling just above the knee. A chemise is usually made of a very light material and has spaghetti straps. A longer gown, the peignoir, reaches to the ankle and often comes with a robe of a similar design.

Women’s lingerie and undergarments have evolved into a huge industry that’s ever-changing and always offering something new and exciting. There are so many options for women to discover, and with everything from sexy to seasonal or comfy to cutesy, there’s a type of lingerie for any woman.

How to Find the Perfect Womens Apparel

Buying womens apparel can range from womens active wear to business suits to the intimate lingerie. There are thousands of different styles, prices, sizes and brands to choose from for each of the categories listed above. Not to mention the thousands of places to purchase the womens apparel. So how do you select from the overwhelming amount of options.

The easiest way to do so is to narrow down your options. When you take a first glance, it can certainly be intimidating shopping for womens apparel. Once you begin to narrow down what you are specifically looking for, it creates a realistic list of options.

The first part to the process is deciding on what kind of womens apparel you are hopping for. If you want to get clothes to wear around the house or go workout in, then you will want to look in stores that offer womens active wear. The same goes for womens business suits and womens intimate lingerie. Obviously you do not want to look for a business suit at Victoria Secret or an intimate nightgown at the Nike outlet.

The next phase is deciding on a price range. If you go into a store without setting a budget, you will find yourself spending way more than you had first anticipated. It can be easy to go into Victoria Secret or JC Pennys and spend over a thousand dollars on a few items if you do not prioritize and set a limit.

The easiest part of the process that will narrow down your selection the most is finding your size. Although brands and what type of womens apparel you are searching for can vary in size, generally the size remains the same for all products. Then when you go to a store, it either has your size or it does not. If it does not, you can either wait for it to come in your size, go to a different store or select a different item.

Another phase that has made way just within the past couple of decades is Internet shopping. With the Internet continuously expanding and more stores opening up an online shopping website, it is becoming increasing popular to shop online. When you shop online, you have a much wider selection to choose from and an endless amount of stores to choose from. There are the downsides and risks of having the wrong item delivered, having to pay for shipping and having to wait for your item to be shipped. However, it opens the door to a much larger selection of womens apparel than ever before.

With all this said, it is now up to you to decide on what brand appeals to you most and what style you are looking for. Whether you want basketball or tennis womens active wear is a decision to make. Do you want a black or brown or white womens business suit? Are you looking for a comfortable nightgown or sexy womens intimate lingerie? These are all questions you will have to ask yourself when shopping for womens apparel, but the sky is the limit for what the retail stores have to offer you.

The History Of Lingerie & Chastity Belts

Many think of chastity belts as a part of medieval society, but there is little archaeological evidence to show that they were common, and many examples that do exist have been denounced as fakes. Even so, there is a basis in legend of the symbolic nature of the chastity belt.

What archaeological evidence there is suggests the belts were largely manufactured for women, although the main issue of conjecture is whether or not distrustful husbands forced them on their wives when they left home, or whether they were to safeguard women from rape. The most probable answer is that there were instances of both.

The most beautiful legend behind the history is written in the poetry of Guigemar de Marie de France who wrote in the twelfth century. She wrote that two young lovers were going to be separated and that they performed a ritual to honor their oath of fidelity to each other. The girl tied a knot around her lover’s shirt, while he knotted a belt around her waist. They swore that they would only give their love to one who could remove the garment without tearing or cutting it.

Lingerie

The first known example of women using lingerie to enhance their figure is in Crete, with the Minoan civilisation. Archaeological records depict a fashion of flounced skirts with a corset that molded around the breasts and lifted them, leaving them bare. Whether this was a social fashion or a form of religious worship is unknown.

In the Middle Ages, however, there was an emphasis on small breasts, a range of different corset styles coming into fashion, notably thecotte, the bliaunt and the surcot.

During the Renaissance, however, this style became much more emphatic. The Spanish influence meant the introduction of much tighter corsets that molded the woman’s shape into one highlighting a narrow waist, flat stomach and small bust. As a result, women often fainted, which enforced a dependency and the notion of feminine weakness within a male-dominated society.

Later in the eighteenth century, women emphasised a more voluptuous figure and began to employ more luxurious fabrics to enhance the sensual power of the female shape. This style continued, although in the 1770’s, boned corsets were prohibited only to make a reappearance in the 1800’s.

Bodices that could be laced by the wearer also came into fashion.

In the 1900’s, scented underwear and specific types of lingerie for different activities and times of day became fashionable. The fashion for tight corsets, however, remained. Garters and suspenders grew in popularity as more women wore stockings.

The twentieth century saw a decisive break from the tradition of the previous years, as more and more companies began to have an interest in the role of a woman’s body in her notions of self. Styles diversified and became more comfortable, while bra sizes and designs developed.

This development of lingerie throughout the ages has left women today with a much firmer sense of their own beauty, and the range of styles, fabrics and sizes allows each woman to dress according to her own style and what makes her feel positive about herself and her body. The romantic aspect of lingerie is essentially the feeling of self worth that comes from sensuality and indulgence.

Women’s Lingerie And How To Care For Your Exotic Lingerie

By Andrew Sharp

Having spent your hard earned money on your beautiful lingerie, then the last thing you want to do is see it ruined after the first wash. Unlike other clothing lingerie is very different when it comes to washing.

Babydoll’s and Chemises cannot be treated the same way as Jeans and Shirts and just be thrown into the washing machine on a normal cycle and left. The result would be a trip to your nearest lingerie store to replace the item.

Women’s Lingerie will not last for ever but by following some simple guidelines your Camisoles and Teddies will last longer and keep their shape.

Lingerie today comes in fabrics and materials that make caring for the item easier than in days gone by. Most of the underwear sold today will come with manufacturers tags recommending how to care for your Satin Babydoll or your Lace Bustier. These recommendations should be followed if the lingerie is to last.

The tags will separate your lingerie into different washes, dry clean only, hand wash and machine wash. Make sure you always read the label as to the type of wash as mistakes can be very costly. So let’s look at the different types of cleaning.

Dry clean only

This is probably the easiest option as the garment can only be cleaned at a specialist shop. This could cause a problem as lingerie is a very private item and not everybody would be happy to take their Teddy or garter Set into a shop to be cleaned. There are products available that can be used at home and imitate the dry cleaning process for those not willing to use a dry cleaning shop.

Machine Wash

The modern washing machine is a time saving invention but it can cause major damage to your delicate underwear if the instructions are not followed.

Always wash your lingerie in cold water and use a detergent specially recommend for delicates never use bleach. Never wash dark and light colors together. Finally combine this with the delicate cycle on your washing machine and your lingerie should have no problems with repeated washes.

However as I have mentioned before Babydolls, Chemises, Camisoles and Bustiers can be delicate items with lace trims, ribbons, hooks and eyes that need to be cared for. Just putting these items into a washing machine even if you follow the instructions above could result in damage. To avoid this put your lingerie into a lingerie bag for extra protection (this is a mesh bag that allows soap and water in, but stops your lingerie being stretched, and can be purchased from most department stores). Only put one item per bag as this will stop the lingerie becoming entangled. Also always make sure all the hooks and eyes and buttons are fastened, and that zippers are closed and ribbons and drawstrings are tied.

Hand Wash

Hand washing is the alternative to the machine wash. Again the principle is the same, always wash in cold water and use a delicates detergent. Soak the lingerie in a bowl filled with cold water and detergent for about 30 minutes then drain and refill the bowl with clean water and no detergent, leave for another 30 minutes then drain the water. This should be sufficient for most washes; however for stains or odours this process can be repeated. Never wring out your lingerie as this could effect the shape.

Drying

Again due to the fabrics used in your lingerie it is always best to hang dry or flat dry your garments. Dryers can cause un-repairable damage to your silk Chemise or satin Babydoll. If you have to use a dryer then leave the lingerie in the lingerie bag and set the dryer at its lowest possible setting. You will find that sheer fabrics such as mesh or Chiffon require no heat to dry.

So by taking a little care and reading the tags on your lingerie, your Babydolls, Chemises, Teddies, Camisoles and Bustiers should look as good as new wash after wash.

A Man’s Guide to Women’s Lingerie

As men and women all over the world share their warmth on these cold wintry nights, a celebration of love looms on the horizon, and with it, the promise of the coming spring. The rituals of Valentines Day so often consists of a box of chocolates and some roses, followed by dinner, and an expectation of some better than the usual sex. Ever wonder if it could get any better than this? It can.

Here’s a wake up call to men of all ages. It’s up to you to make it better. Take hold of the reins and do the unexpected. Surprise your lover and she’ll surprise you beyond your wildest expectations. Give her some sexy lingerie, then sit back and enjoy the show! Lingerie – the gift that keeps on giving!

Women love to look pretty, men love to look at pretty women, so what’s the problem here? Granted, most men’s ultimate goal is to get their women naked, but throw into the equation a tightly laced thong teddy with a skirted garter and fishnet hose – heck, getting there is half the fun!

Lingerie comes in many styles and materials and is conveniently available online (for those of us who don’t particularly want to make a trip to Victoria’s Secret). Online lingerie retailers ship their products discreetly in plain boxes so as not to spill the beans to the neighbors, your wife, or the person you want to surprise. And there’s good news for those men who like their women big; plenty of stores out there that offer plus size lingerie, up to 3X!

With all this in mind, men need to become educated consumers in a world of lingerie that is primarily dominated by women. It is for this reason that I have taken it upon myself to write this informative “Man’s Guide to Women’s Lingerie”.

Corsets and Bustier: a history of lingerie

As recently as the 1830’s, the corset was thought of as a medical necessity. Being that women were the weaker sex, they needed the support of a laced corset to hold them up for any length of time. Girls from the ages of two or three began their lives being strapped in daily to a tight laced corset. Unfortunately for the women, by the time they reached their prime they were unable to stand or sit upright for very long without getting the “vapors”.

Early corsets were made from canvas, (plenty of that around from all the sailing ships) and had laces all the way up the back pulled so tight as to make it darn near impossible to draw a deep breath. Needless to say, the prevailing fashion (or fetish) of the day was a very small waist line.

Today’s modern corset is made from softer and suppler materials such as silk, satin and lace, (as well as leather) to name a few. It is designed to accentuate a woman’s curves, not to alter them. For many men there is nothing more arousing than the sight of a willing accomplice all dressed up in a tight little laced up leather corset, and it’s a turn on for women too!

Out of the corset evolved the “Bustier”, predecessor to the modern day brazier. It seems that men even back then liked to see their women’s breasts pushed up and squeezed together! A bustier is basically an underwire bra that extends down to the waistline. Traditionally with a lace up front, today’s bustiers can fasten in a variety of ways. Zippers, snaps, hooks and eyes, (remember the trouble we had undoing bras in high school?) even Velcro seems to get the job done. Keep in mind the fastenings when considering a lingerie purchase. The removal of these garments can at times try a man’s patience. Remember the times when you’ve been asked to take it easy and slow down? Do it now, and savor the moment!

Another popular lingerie design is what’s known as the “Teddy”. Similar to a corset in design, a teddy is a one piece suit that starts out as a bustier, extends down between the legs as a thong, and ends up fastening to the back of the bodice. Simple by definition, teddies can take the form of something resembling a harness, to a full fledged zippered, hooked, and laced corset with an attached thong. Many teddies come with garter belts attached, adding endless possibilities for some naughty, bad little girls’ psychopathic imagination to run wild with.

For the truly innocent, perpetual virgin nice girl look, consider the “Baby Doll”. A short mini hanging to the waist that can be worn with or without the matching bra and panties, the baby doll is usually made from some sheer, lightweight material with varying degrees of transparency. The baby doll lingerie style gets its name from; well…you figure it out!

Today, ladies lingerie is easier than ever to shop for. Do a search on lingerie and you’ll find a multitude of reputable lingerie dealers and merchants. Browse through their catalogs and you’re sure to find something that stirs your, um… interest.

Sizing is an issue that must be dealt with, and a good lingerie site will have size charts easily accessible. While lingerie is generally pretty forgiving size wise, (a lot of lingerie is marked one size fits all) you should know at a minimum if she’s a small, medium or large. If you see sizes like 32, 38, etc….why don’t you just ask her her size!

When shopping for lingerie, keep in mind that a gift of lingerie should stimulate both you and your partner. Get her something that you like, and don’t be afraid to push the envelope! Lingerie encompasses a huge variety of styles; from a couple of pasties and a thong, to an elegant satin and lace gown with matching bra and panties! Do not overlook the possibilities of Leather Lingerie. Leather has become mainstream and is not just for bikers and sado/masochists any more. Women love the feel of leather on their bare skin, and peeling off a tight leather teddy is a real treat!

Lingerie for your baby and you can’t lose! Give her a gift of lingerie, and you do yourself a favor! The gift that keeps on giving – all year round!
